Abstract

There is an increase interest by consumers for high quality food products with a clear geographical origin. The relative potential of stable isotopes for the confirmation of food authenticity and geographical origin are discussed based on the research performed on important food products in Slovenia.

Dr. Nives Ogrinc is an Assistant Professor, senior researcher at the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is the leader of the group of geochemistry and has a great experience in dealing with stable isotopes of light elements as tracers of the sources, origin and authenticity of various natural and processed foodstuffs, such as honey, olive oil, wine, milk and bottled water. She is the leader of a great number of international and national projects.
